Using cannabis in college was thoroughly a communal affair. With that said, I hated it when random kids would file into my dorm room when my friends and I were smoking weed because they’d expect to get in on the action for free. Anyone who regularly smokes cannabis will tell you that it costs a lot of money to keep repacking the pipe, especially when inexperienced smokers burn five hits in the course of one. I was so thankful when a friend in college taught me how to “corner” a bowl of weed by holding the light flame at the end of the pipe so you allow a tiny bit of flame to lightly kiss a tiny portion of marijuana. This way you still get a full hit, but without needlessly wasting several additional hits of weed in the process. I tried to pass this knowledge on to as many people as I possibly could, but struggled continuously. So many people just want to get as high as possible as quickly as possible, especially if they aren’t the ones paying for the weed that everyone is smoking. Thankfully I developed a small friend group who would always share with one another during communal smoking sessions. This is where I got to try a lot of interesting cannabis flower strains for the very first time, like White Widow and Dutch Treat. I read an article about the dangers of combusting plant matter and inhaling it, like you do with tobacco or marijuana. The article convinced me to buy a vaporizer for my cannabis and I haven’t looked back since. Now that I’ve been using a vaporizer all of this time, I vastly prefer it over combusting or smoking weed.
