When I was working as a reporter, I essentially had to kneel in at county commission meetings all the time, plus it was hard to watch some of those people plead for permission to open their businesses.
My town plus county have more rules regarding corporations than other municipalities in our state. Our water costs more money, we can’t have clubs or eating establishments with terribly loud music, plus there is an ever increasing number of available liquor licenses if all that weren’t enough already. If you want to be a corporation owner in this area, you have a number of hoops to jump through directly out the gate. It’s not a matter of simply renting an area in a strip mall plus choosing to be a merchant overnight. You have to deal with the county commissioners plus the town council first. Some corporations are approved in a rush, while others have to go through a horrific process for approval. When I was working as a reporter, I essentially had to kneel in at county commission meetings all the time, plus it was hard to watch some of those people plead for permission to open their businesses. Despite our state legalizing medical marjuana with over 68% of voter approval, municipalities that are exactly like our own have gone out of their way to make it impossible for marijuana corporations to operate or exist at all. It took so many years for medical marijuana companies to get building permits in this county; plus now that they have, they have to follow strict rules such as closing at 7pm plus staying closed every Wednesday as well. On top of that, they can’t be open past 12pm on Tuesdays, making it tough for people to acquire their cannabis then. If you aren’t up early on Tuesday morning, you’ll be driving to an adjacent town or waiting until the following day to get the cannabis you want.
